I had thought about getting them skimmed, yes - I did have that done on a set when i had a 350Z.

Might be better off asking this in the B8 RS4 section, for more comments. I'd be surprised at it needing new discs though, unless it's seen track work. More details having spoken with the mechanic - it's severe corrosion at the rear of the front discs as opposed to excessive wear.

How long would B8 RS4 owners expect OEM discs (and pads) to last? Just had mine in for a service (at a reputable indy) and been told that the fronts need replaced after 16k. I just fitted a set of Toyo SnowProx S954's on my RS4. £165 a corner for 265/30/20 on the standard rims. Once they've bedded in I'll post some feedback.
