Re: Engine build and 6MT swap
I have seen a few on YT that show you how to mend plastics. They often demonstrate on car bits like broken bumper mounts and such like. You can get new plastic to melt and shape into what is missing and apparently there are such things as plastic welders now. Good idea to make a carbon version thoug...

Re: HVAC unit
Isn't it the temp sensor / connection to temp sensor for the fan that has packed in not the fan itself? If it wasn't making any weird noises in the last weeks I'd think it could be that. Also with the pollution sensor also not working maybe it's locked out ventilation? I'd check the fuses for it fir...

Re: Power steering questions…
I didn't think it had variable assistance either but others seem to think it does. Is it a market area thing or a LHD specific thing to have or not have it?

Re: Power steering questions…
Looking around it seems it was quite common to take out the relay to remove the variable assistance altogether. I'd think you'd have to get a relay and pop it in and see what happens.

Re: Power steering questions…
I'd definitely change the fluid. You don't want bits in it.Then check the screen thing again in a few weeks. I assume there's seals where the pump sits, maybe that is the cause of the bits? Do they all use the same pump? You could flush it out then use a pump off another car and put that one on it. ...

I don't know. It might be clogged. I have no idea if there's a good and safe way of cleaning it all out.
Did you take out all the old power steering fluid and replace it?

Re: Power steering questions…
No. It's normal weight power steering. Is it worse turning one way rather than another? Some of the front steering bits can go stiff with lack of use or wear. Mine was a bit heavy until I had something changed but can't remember what it was. Check front tyre pressures are ok as if they're low then a...

I'd be inclined to get it professionally cleaned and checked. You don't want it doing weird stuff with the gearbox.

Also battery and alternator. Any power issues and they're worth looking at to rule out.

Re: 18155 - transmission solenoid power relay
If that power relay has any input via the F125 switch and that hasn't been replaced in a few years I'd probably start with that. There's a fusebox under the bonnet for gubbins as well. Couple of wiring diagrams in the Bentley manual that might help. Looks like there are a lot of earth points to check.

Re: Looking at buying a 2003 RS6 - a couple questions
I'd think the long interval was the original planned one then a load of them failed so interval was shortened. There was a spate of snapped belts in a lot of cars when manufacturers started pushing out the intervals from the usual 36-40k out to 60 or 72k or beyond. Lots had to return to the normal 3...
