Re: Strange dull tapping sound when braking
Probably a build-up of rust on the inside of the disc.

Re: Rear Discs/alternatives
I've found a great supplier for some RS5 b8 rear discs and the chap selling them swears blind that they can be used on the rs4, despite the increased diameter (5mm larger). Does anyone have any experience of this, or failing that know of any cheaper alternatives to the £650 oem discs!? Your "great ...

Re: AP Racing Front Discs
I think you'll find the Reyland discs are an ordinary plain disc with grooves. The internal vents are radial so are not angled for improved cooling. You do get what you pay for here.

Re: Front rotors.
Zinc plating usually comes off the disc surface fairly quickly. Do you have a nice even looking surface just now? If not, give the brakes some decent bedding in. A few firm 60-20mph stops will help. If the surface still doesn't look right, take a pad out and see if it's got the zinc on it. If so, yo...

Re: Front rotors.
Hello Luke That's a pain that you've got vibration. I know that you've checked the run-out of the discs and at 0.003", and this is about the maximum tolerance, but shouldn't cause "terrible" vibration as you describe. However, it won't be smooth. There are so many things that can brake vibration, bu...

Re: KW Adjustable Springs
Thanks very much for that, Jotter.
The next question is, does anyone have one of these kits available secondhand?

Re: KW Adjustable Springs
Yes, if the flexi is removed, then the DRC is depressurised.
If someone could confirm that it's possible to drop the strut sufficiently to undo the top mount with spring clamps fitted, and then remove the spring, this would be greatly appreciated.

KW Adjustable Springs
I am sure this subject has been covered before, so apologies for the repeat. Does anyone know whether it's possible to change the front springs with the strut still attached to the DRC flexi pipe? There was a thread here: http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=97543 by Voyager162 and he states ...

Re: Charlie D's Build Thread
Hello Charlie Your car looks very nice, and those wheels certainly enhance its appearance. An aspect that does concern me though, are the brakes. After your man Marcus skimmed the discs, there is still the deep groove on the outer edge, as shown in your last picture of the disc. This groove can also...

Re: Paintless Dent Repair. Aberdeenshire
There's a guy who does the rounds, and he visits Morrison Motors in Turriff on a Thursday. He massages the dinks out from inside the panel and usually you cannot see the repair. The quality of the repair will depend on whether he can get behind the panel and whether the paint has cracked. The work I...

Re: Second car lucky!!
It could be spark plugs or the coil packs giving a misfire, but my main concern would be the smoke. If you saw it in the mirror, then it's more than a puff. Was it black smoke or whitish grey? If it's black, then it'll be over-rich fuelling. If it's whitish grey, it's oil in the cylinder bores, and ...
