Sorry for huge delay since I first posted my plea for help in December! Just wanted to thank everyone for their input. It was a huge saga, lasting from June 2013 until it was finally fixed in Feb 2014 (cost £3,600 plus funding alternative transport from time to time and a load of stress and hassle)....

There has been a real burning smell just in the last few days after a short (10 minute) drive. I wasn't sure whether it was the leaked oil as its heated up or linked to gearbox problem!
