Re: Thoughts on sale price

Thanks everyone for your input. Stuartph, Cambelt was last done by Audi 20k miles and 2 years ago so not due anytime soon. The only costs I can foresee coming up are its annual service, and likely discs and pads on the front, which I will sort before sale. However, one never quite knows.... either w...

Thoughts on sale price

Afternoon all, Sadly I am arriving at a time when I must sell my C5 RS6+. I am returning to Ireland where road tax is a very reasonable Euro2350 a year (!) plus other exorbitant costs and rubbish roads/risk of theft. As such, I am forced to part with my pride and joy. I am hoping to get an idea of w...

Re: Gearbox woes-The beginning of the end?

Thanks all for your help. I think I will get a filter/oil change anyway on the off chance it has some use. However, in the likely event that it does not, I am looking at AMd, TSR and A1 premier transmissions as options for new boxes. I should hear more from Hardys tomorrow so will update with their ...

Thanks. He did say he would check the fluid level this evening before driving it for a while.

Gearbox woes-The beginning of the end?

I feel like I am covering some old ground for forum members with this topic but here goes... About 150 miles into a 170 mile trip last night, having slowed down for a roundabout to near standstill, upon taking off and changing from 1st gear unto second, nothing happened, the revs shot up and then th...

Re: Exhaust Recommendation(s)

I'm finally getting around to changing the stock exhaust on my Plus (black tipped) and intend to go for Milltek non-res from my local specialist. I've seen various prices for fully fitted, most about a grand. Does that sound about right?

Any other suggestions/advice welcome!

Re: Idiots guide to batteries/Alternators

ChrisRS6, Sorry for the delay-hope I am not too late. Your situation sounds very similar to mine. Upon initial inspection, the factory alternator was a bit noisy, but producing the correct charge. It was deemed that the bearings were on the way out so I I agreed to swap it out. The new part then fai...

Re: Idiots guide to batteries/Alternators

Thanks mate. Like most on here, I suspect, I am not happy if the 6 ain't happy so I am pleased it is squared now. The Lucas part claims OE quality but I suppose time will tell...

Discs and pads next. Promises to be cheap....;)

Re: Idiots guide to batteries/Alternators

The alternator fitted (which failed and was subsequently replaced with a fully functioning one) was a Lucas part number 401449231 Same product as seen on this link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OE-Quality-Alternator-12V-150A-6VEE-57mm-AUDI-A6-RS6-PLUS-QUATTRO-/351047124601 I don't know where they source...

Re: Idiots guide to batteries/Alternators

Having returned the 6 to Euro Performance via RAC breakdown, they investigated and found that the new alternator fitted the previous week was faulty. They are good lads in there and replaced and fitted a new one under warranty without any fuss. We also elected to replace the near 10 year old factory...

Re: Idiots guide to batteries/Alternators

Just when I thought I was in the clear, the woes continue.... My brother took the car to collect me from the hospital and it managed about 10 miles before the FXXXing battery light began to flash again, subsequently followed by a host of others including ABS etc, before it proceeded to die in the ha...

Re: Idiots guide to batteries/Alternators

Latest on the problem is that following some further fault finding and investigation, the battery and any electrics have been ruled out and the issue has been found to lie with the alternator, as many on here had suggested. My car has about 79k on the clock and it has not been changed previously so ...

Re: Idiots guide to batteries/Alternators

+1 for the 200A fuse. It's in a plastic junction box underneath the expansion tank. Mine was corroded badly causing voltage fluctuation, intermittent non-starting and eventually smoke from melting plastic! I've recently replaced the alternator (1.5hrs DIY - dealer quotes 5.5hrs) and the battery too...
