Re: RE: Suitable oil for a modified B5 S4
Never use semi synthetic in these engines, always full synth. 5W50 is fully synth, but I didn't think you could get a fully synthetic 10W60. Castrol state "synthetic technology" or something like that but it's a semi-synthetic, Valvoline is definitely semi-synthetic, IIRC Millers is semi-synth, but...

Re: RE: Suitable oil for a modified B5 S4
I remember the days of 5W50 oil. Harder to come by these days If you're looking for a compromise, CAS do the Valvoline VR1 5W50 fully synthetic http://www.central-auto.co.uk/ about £28 IIRC. I tend to run 5W50 full-synth in winter and 10W60 semi-synth in summer, temps tend to be 120c when pushing o...

Bedford is by far the safest and easiest place for a trackday novice. Good atmosphere, well policed and with the long straights of the Gt circuit you have time and space to concentrate on the driving. :) I'd Concur, Bedford is ideal: loads of run-off (onto grass) and a nice wide circuit. The GT cir...

Where handling is concerned weight distribution is just as important as suspension, brakes and power delivery (if not more so). Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about the heavy lump at the front of these cars. Ahh the nirvana of 50:50 weight distribution, yes I would concur that a low cen...

Sorry to hear about the write-off. What about an A4 1.8T Quattro - B5/6's around at good money, and you can always take it to MRC for a cheap mod later when you feel like it  OR what about Golfathers Golf GTI in the classifieds 210bhp £6750? http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=vi...

i was actually being kind to the R8 by posting the Avant weight for the S4. 1540kg for the saloon although i suspect it's not all about weight but suspension control, power/weight ratios, center of gravity, track and wheelbase etc and even down to how the controls feel and respond  Totally ...

Re: RE: S4 isn
If you wanted to keep the q car approach then you could go for a 2.7t allroad and get that remapped as it is the same engine in most respects My wife's got the 2.7T Allroad, engines got plenty of grunt (as we all know), you can adjust the air suspension to it's lowest setting and chuck the big brut...

:D Welcome to the forum Carpy! Short answer to your question... no, S4's are not money pits. Good mpg (compared to scooby's/evo's), and some knowledgable (and relatively cheap) specialists mean ongoing maintenance is comparable with most other cars. Long answer... the complex blend of reliability, w...

I have the 32/21 H&R's on hard settings combined with std shocks/springs. The car is superb in the corners, very well balanced and totally predictable - definitely recommended. The standard suspension still retains a pliant ride for family trips and speed bumps; could do with firming up suspension t...

Having read all the advice last time round, I went for a 5W50 fully synthetic from Valvoline (seemed like the compromise between tuners recommending 10W60 and others recommending 5W40). I've just changed again this week(10W60 Castrol RS) and note that the oil temps are higher than with 5W50 - takes ...
