It should be fairly simple to bypass the thermistor on the MAF with a dedicated inlet temp sensor I did this on my previous E46 M3 as they suffered heat soak where the MAF was positioned. This is normally the case, and pretty sure if you remove the MAF you'll see it, it's just a resister positioned in the airflow.
