Re: Thinking of moving on.

Sorry to hear about the tensioners and I think you're wise to consider your options. On a happier note, at least the big job will be done and your V8 should be good for many more miles. The S4 V8 is a wonderful beast but it was overshadowed by the sublime RS4 and this, combined with high cost of own...

Re: Happy / anti-catastrophic thread

"...its likely new owners will be skipping big jobs like that and bodges start to appear" This is so very true, these are superb cars and can be a joy to own for those who are realistic about the full cost of ownership. It's telling when you view a car with a mixed bag of budget tyres and no recent ...

Re: Boot Spoiler

I think the 'polished' aluminium trim at the bottom of each door window is actually plastic coated aluminium so metal polish will not improve them if they're tarnished. Audi blamed chemicals in automatic car washes for oxidising the metal under the coating. I had a B6 3.0 Quattro for a few months an...

Re: More electrical gremlins!

Hi there It sounds like the transponder isn't recognising your key. Symptoms are that the engine fires up then cuts within two seconds as the immobiliser kicks in. I've had this on two Audis and it was a common problem with the B5. A good auto electrician should be able to advise. Have you tried wai...

Re: LED Bulbs

Many thanks for your opinion on these bulbs.

Oh dear, sounds like the quality just isn't there at the moment.

I think I'll stick with the standard ones for now. I usually drive with the sidelights on during the day so reliability is really important to me.

LED Bulbs

Evening guys

I've seen a few posts regarding LED bulbs flickering and tripping the bulb warning system.
Has anyone tried these ones?

Supplier claims they're error free - I'm tempted.

Re: Smelly B6 S4

That's a good point, I've heard those rads can be a problem on the S4.

It's booked in for the oil service next week - no doubt they'll tell me I need gaskets and rads!

Thanks again

Re: S4 Auto's

Hi I tried both manual and auto and decided on the auto because: 1. It has a higher final drive which makes the car quieter at speed - around 30 mph/1000 revs in 6th 2. I do a lot of long journeys and I get 25 - 27mpg on a typical run cruising at 85mph 3. The slush box makes the car surprisingly hap...

Thanks

I'll ask the dealers to have a look when it's in for the oil change.

Smelly B6 S4

Well hello all It's been around 10 months since I acquired my Avant Tiptronic and it has been my daily drive for the last 10K miles. Apart form the usual (intermittent) startup rattle, there has been little to report. There is one thing I'd like to investigate, and that is the smell from the front o...

Re: Hello - new S4 owner

Here's my Avant: 100% stock. Metallic black with 9 spoke rims(from factory). Interior is silver with piano black dash/door inlays. Most of these cars seem to be pretty well fully loaded, this one has Sat-nav, coolbox, seat storage, auto lights, cargo straps/hooks/net/liner, paddle shift, auto dim/he...

Re: Hello - new S4 owner

Welcome mate, Glad you're enjoying your car. Sounds like you took your time to get the one you want. Where abouts in Scotland are you from? Alex Thanks, I'm Edinburgh based. I'm an IT contractor so I have to work all over the UK. Working down in Southampton at the moment, back to Scotland for Chris...

Re: Engine Out Pics

Thanks for sharing this. Hopefully you'll get another 100K + once it's all back together. I must say this is the second set of pics I've seen of broken guides/tensioners and is a little worrying. In both cases the plastic guides seem to have snapped (rather than worn or crumbled) and I wonder if oil...

Hello - new S4 owner

Hi all and what great site! Picked up my B6 S4 avant tiptronic a month or so ago and love it. I test drove two manuals first and decided on the tiptronic because it seemed more docile in traffic and more relaxing on the motorway thanks to it's higher final drive. I was originally hoping to find a go...
