Re: Rattling Engine Noise from Top End - any idea's?

Thank you! Having a skim, Nobby mentioned afterwards that it did not solve the rattle, maybe made it a bit better - but his issue I think was not as bad as mine as his was doing it at certain revs etc I believe. Wouldn't want to spend the 20+ hours on it and it not solve it  But making perfec...

Re: Rattling Engine Noise from Top End - any idea's?

Thank you for the input, much appreciated!

I've taken a look on eBay and non-genuine are around £210 a pair from decent looking sellers, so not too bad.

But are they a pig to change? I assume it's not engine out, but also assume there would be a fair bit of strip down?

Re: Rattling Engine Noise from Top End - any idea's?

Thank for the reply.

Are those located on the end of the cam rods themselves? Are they expensive/easy to replace?

And any idea why it only starts when the revs drop to normal idle speed?

Rattling Engine Noise from Top End - any idea's?

Hi Guys I need some assistance with an issue, and really hope your knowledge can help out here... I recently bought a cheap C5 RS6 as spares repairs. I only bought it as it was cheap, and I have a friend who breaks Audi's and I can offload it to him if I get stuck. So if it's a terminal issue, then ...

Going Over Bumps Car Loses Control for a second - why?

Hi guys I test-drove an RS6 a couple of weeks back (C5) and on the test drive if you hit a bump it felt like the car lost control for a split second. Especially on the rear. There was a kind of fish tailing sensation. Only for a brief moment, then felt ok again. Naturally did not buy the car as it w...

Re: Sat Nav SAFE MODE issue - but seems to have correct pin?

Audi Emailed me this image to ensure we were talking about the same pins, just for reference for anyone who finds this post in the future:
PINS.jpg
The Part Number is on the image. Seems to come on a cable with a pin on both ends.

Re: Sat Nav SAFE MODE issue - but seems to have correct pin?

Thanks - I'll give that a try! I won't have the car back until next week now as just dropped in for service and brake fluid change etc so may take a few days but I'll definitely try it out and let you know the outcome. I've also spoken to Audi and the pins are available seperately, which is good in ...

Re: Sat Nav SAFE MODE issue - but seems to have correct pin?

Hi Gary That was may thought as well - to check if the power was actually coming down that cable. Embarassingly I actually have a cheap multimeter, but have never used it and don't really have much of an idea how to use it!!! What settings would I use, and I assume red to the pin, and black to what?...

Re: Sat Nav SAFE MODE issue - but seems to have correct pin?

Silly question? Did RS6's have RNS-E units fitted ever as standard?

Was there an option for either D or E, or did E supersede D?

I'm wondering if this maybe had an E, and he replaced it with a D, and that's the cause of the issue?? Just a thought. Maybe not.

Ok, adding images:

This shows the rear of the lower most plug. You can see the power cable - the thick red and yellow one. Next to this is the SAFE pin which also has a red and yellow thinner cable.

Re: Sat Nav SAFE MODE issue - but seems to have correct pin?

Just Google'd... Yes, definitely the RNS-D (not E). The car was registered April 2003. I guess that was before the RNS-E? I'm wondering if the previous owner had an issue with the head unit, and bought a replacement one??? But either way - it should still work? I bought a second unit from eBay, and ...

Re: Sat Nav SAFE MODE issue - but seems to have correct pin?

Hi guys What's an RNS-D unit? It's Sat Nav Plus if that's what you mean? How do I include images??? I have taken some, but cannot see an option to add them. There is an 'Img' button but when clicked it just adds: img/img Code is definitely correct as have two units as that's what I initially thought...

Re: Sat Nav SAFE MODE issue - but seems to have correct pin?

Yes, you can turn it on and off and each time it says either safe pin disconnected, or if I leave it for an hour I get the option to enter the code. So you cannot get beyond the enter code screen. And if you try the code three times you end up in the SAFE screen. Tried on two units, so code is defin...
