Re: Roof Box for RS4 Avant under 1.85m Eurotunnel limit

Not sure if this is much help. I have the square-section Thule roof bars and bought a Thule roofbox for skis & snowboards etc. I didn't measure anything, but luckily it all fitted underneath the 1.85m limit anyway, just about! Maybe six inches to spare between the top of the roof box and the ceiling...

Re: Winter tyres

+1 for Vredestein Wintrac Extremes. Used them last three winters, with plenty of driving across French motorways and in also the Alps. Also have chains also but only needed them once - Wintracs + Quattro makes winter driving very straightforward. Deepest snow I've encountered was about six inches, o...

2013 Audi RS4 Avant Spy Shots

My google alert for "NEW AUDI RS4" has been producing a few links recently. They're all reporting the same event; a prototype 2013(?) Audi RS4 Avant has been spied testing at the Nurburgring. The blistered wheel arches, massive brakes, large alloy wheels and twin oval exhausts are the evidence for c...

Re: Bike rack, spacers and clean !

Interesting post, I always wondered if those bike racks were sturdy! Regarding roof boxes, I've had a halfords job and more recently a Thule. The Thule is better and worth the extra cash I reckon, it's easier to install, opens from both sides and is a bit more solid. Good for keeping dirty kit out o...

Re: For all you potential Miltek Owners and Downhill bikers!

Great footage and nice editing too!

Milteks sound so good in tunnels it's like they were designed to do just that. All day.

I've had mine for four years now and it never gets old!

Re: Insurance renewal - joke!!

I tried the primoplc, but you need more cars than drivers to make it work. This year Adrian Flux wanted around £1000 to insure my rs4 with Aviva, who were worse than useless on two occasions during the past year. Last years cost was around the £700 mark. This year I Settled on Admiral in the end, go...

I actually have a spare roof box that I need to sell. It's a black, half-width box of Halfords brand called Exodus. It fits skis and snowboards etc comfortably. Used once last summer for a camping trip in France. Brilliant for stashing tents and sleeping bags and any wet/dirty gear. It helps to keep...

RE: SW0090 and warmer weather

Roger that, mine feels like it has a choke for the first minute or so. I quite like it actually, the Miltek sounds even louder than normal and if you stick it into third and cruise at 25mph it sounds like a world war one biplane. Or, like one of the original RS4 reviews said, "sounds like an angry b...

It looks a bit like a blackboard.

Still, at least you can pull the wrap off and hopefully find mint condition paintwork underneath

Not essential, but an iPod with a selection of audiobooks is great for those long stretches of motorway.
Audiobooks may seem a little expensive, but they are reasonable value because they go on for ages.

I'm also going to take my V5 registration document on the next trip too

Make sure you have full European breakdown cover, and check your insuance policy to see if it covers tyres. If your insurance is with Aviva like mine, you may not be covered. In future I am definitely going to squeeze a spare tyre in somewhere, even if it means sacrificing something else. It takes i...

RE: Road trip without a spare wheel/tyre? Never again!

Spare tyre is a good idea for sure. The irony of our situation was that I had 6 spare tyres at home!! One of them is definitely coming along for the trip next year! We had (and usually have) tons of luggage, skiing, snowboarding, climbing & camping kit, so space is a premium. Roofbox has been really...

I got pulled over by the French cops last summer for speeding, they couldn't speak any English, but they had a little translation handbook which said I needed to show my vehicle registration document, which I guess is that V5 document aka log book. I'm not sure if it's a legal requirement, but they ...

Road trip without a spare wheel/tyre? Never again!

On the way back from the alps, I stopped for petrol at motorway services near Lyon. I accidentally clipped the curb with the front, passenger side wheel at ±1mph. (All the pumps on my driver's side were occupied). This particular piece of curb was damaged, pointy & sharp, and ripped a hole in the s...
