Re: New owner - 2003 "noggy blue" S4

Sorry to be the harbinger of doom but that sounds like a broken clutch plate caused by a knackered DMF. Been there, done that, get ready for the thick end of £1700.

Thing is, a week after the pain you've forgotten all about it :thumb: :nogarors4:

Re: Looking for help - B6 S4 gear change problems

Yes. Bought it new in 2003. It hasn't had a hard life (on the brakes at least)!

Re: Looking for help - B6 S4 gear change problems

OK, so first the good news. It isn't the gearbox! Now the bad news. It's the DMF, clutch plate and slave cylinder (plus the small matter of an oil leak from some part of the camshaft timing mechanism). Apparently after a quick test drive Ed and the team were sure it was the clutch so off came the ge...

Re: Looking for help - B6 S4 gear change problems

Ian_C, looks like I'll be heading Brackley way in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the tip. I'm just hoping I come out of this being able to keep the car!

Re: Coil Pack Replacements?!

Mine were done yesterday. Shame the gearbox can't be done on a recall :s4addict:

Re: Looking for help - B6 S4 gear change problems

Ian_c, thanks for your follow up. I haven't had a chance to talk with the techies at the dealer yet. I'll do that tomorrow morning and try and sense whether they've exhausted all other possibilities and are confident the fault lies in the gearbox. I managed to drive the car 60 miles today with littl...

Re: Looking for help - B6 S4 gear change problems

An update. The car was at the local Audi dealer today for diagnosis. No confirmed outcome - the recommended result is a gearbox strip totalling 11 hours and £1400 just to see if the problem is in the gearbox. Sounds like I could end up with a bill upwards of £2.5k. Not sure the car's worth it but wh...

Looking for help - B6 S4 gear change problems

Took advantage of the good weather yesterday and went for a run to the south coast. In mid- overtake tried to change up to 5th from 4th and the gearbox absolutely baulked. Eventually managed to reselect 4th. Spent the rest of the journey trying to work out what was going on. Under gentle acceleratio...

Thanks guys. Called in at the local Audi dealer at lunchtime. They kindly demonstrated how to remove the battery on a car in their workshop. Yes, it does require a hex key on a long extension. Do I have one? No. Did they offer to lend me one? No. So tomorrow's task is to get one! Also the 'third' c...

Just to close off. Bought a 6mm hex socket (60p), used both extensions of my 1/4" socket set and hey presto, bracket undone in seconds. Battery out, new one in, all connected and all is well although both key fobs needed to be re-programmed. The only problem is that it is almost impossible to re-tig...

B6 S4 - replacing the battery

Anyone know how to get the battery out? I have a replacement and have disconnected the +ve and -ve terminals but I can't see how the battery is held in place or how to remove the 3rd connector by the +ve terminal. Does anyone know what the 3rd connection is for? (It doesn't look as if the replacemen...

Just to add my two penneth: Smooth gear change: transmission shunt particularly noticeable between 1st and 2nd. Can be minimised by not revving too high in first and getting in to 2nd asap (and doing a slow change). I don't experience any problem in higher gears unless doing an aggressive gear chang...
